Contemporary Colonial Ranch
Santa Monica, CA
Breathing new life into this home for an active family of six took some vision. The roof of the house was peppered with giant skylights flooding the house with natural light yet making the interiors unbearably hot. Steel beams ran through some rooms adding a cool industrial vibe but the windows were flimsy and devoid of character.
This residence is a distinctive example of the “mashup” work we have been increasingly commissioned to design. Working with the homeowners, we decided on an Industrial-East Coast aesthetic. Using the existing modern elements of the home we married the skylights, I-Beams, and slanted roofs with timelessly classic materials like rough-hewn beams, steel windows and elegant woodwork to create a truly custom amalgam of modern and traditional.
