Tim Barber Architects Principals

We have always focused on designing vibrant and resonant shelters. We once used pencil and paper, fax machines, and “snail mail” to communicate our work. Over three decades, our architectural practice has evolved to use Revit and Lumion and email and Zoom (and still hand sketches!), enabling our homeowners to envision the finished home well before the construction phase.

My fascination with history and sustainability is propelling me toward a renewed purpose. I am driven to teach and inspire others to champion the preservation of historic buildings, celebrate craftsmanship, and create sustainable, enduring, places for future generations to cherish.

We have grown to an imaginative team of 20+ by developing each member to become a collaborative leader. The tangible outcome: TBA is now a partnership. It is with great pride that we welcome two new Principals to Tim Barber Architects.

Individually and together, Kelly and David have led TBA to artistic excellence, superb client service, and a collegial team culture. Please learn more about them – and join us in celebrating them.

What is — and isn’t — changing?

  • I will continue to lead our team to design and learn and grow, to listen better and to advocate more clearly, now with seasoned, passionate partners.
  • David will continue as Director of Operations, planning, training, and trouble-shooting our projects and our team.
  • Kelly will continue as Senior Project Manager, designing, collaborating, and bringing our designs to fruition.

Yet this is a metamorphosis, make no mistake. Our goal is to provide more innovative, sustainable design in more complex projects, with greater artistry. I genuinely believe that this change to partnership moves the dial in that direction.

Kelly Becker

Principal & Senior Project Manager

Born in Chicago and a longtime resident of Los Angeles, Kelly is a city dweller by nature and delights in the diversity of architecture in these locales. A licensed architect in California, Kelly holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Since joining the TBA team in 2013, she has grown from a Design Associate to a Senior Project Manager. Today, she is a strong supporter and mentor for her colleagues while leading some of our most complex design projects. Kelly is also actively involved in our professional community, and frequently attends continuing education events with the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA), volunteers with AIA|LA’s Women in Architecture Committee, and she is a certified Safety Assessment Program Evaluator for statewide disaster response.

“I have worked with Tim and contributed to our portfolio for over a decade, so the TBA values of tradition, innovation, and service are deeply ingrained in my work, as well as the relationships I have built with our team and collaborators. My focus will be to ensure these values remain a priority in our firm, through mentorship, connecting with our network of talented collaborators, and client care. I will continue to lead projects, as our design work remains my center for learning and inspiration.”

David Stone

Principal & Director of Operations

David joined TBA in 2018, bringing over 15 years’ experience and expertise in design and management to our firm. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Community Planning & Urban Design degrees from Auburn University. During his architectural career, he has designed for the commercial, healthcare, institutional, and residential sectors; and taught everything from Revit to sustainability at the collegiate level. Dedicated to his community and profession, David has also served on philanthropic boards throughout Central Florida. Since moving to Los Angeles, he has continued his philanthropic and professional development endeavors by joining the Emerging Leadership Council and Board of Directors for My Friend’s Place (a support community for homeless youth).
